While each of the wonderful Finger Lakes communities in this post did not make our “PRIME” communities list, they can each offer tremendous location experiences for your trip. Here are five communities that have great geographic convenience to consider for your Finger Lakes stay.
Penn Yan

Those that know could put forth a great argument that the village of Penn Yan should be included in our list of PRIME communities, and it’s hard to argue back against that idea.
Located at the north end of the east branch of Keuka Lake, Penn Yan is a rising star in the Finger Lakes region, with it’s fast growing dining & drinking venues as well as two new modern hotel chain lodging options.
But what really pushes us to name Penn Yan as our number one geographically convenient community is just that…it’s geographic convenience. Throw a dart for a bulls-eye on any map of the Finger Lakes region and you’ve landed in Penn Yan. If you choose to stay here, you’ll be well positioned to enjoy much that the region has to offer you.
BEST FOR: Central Location – Waterside Dining – Amish/Mennonite Businesses – Hiking
Canandaigua

The geographic convenience for this small city is its proximity to Rochester. If you wish to stay “in the Finger Lakes”, but might be spending some time in the great city of Rochester, NY, then this is a great option for you.
Canandaigua (say can-an-day-gwa) is famous for having several prominent tourist-worthy venues, including CMAC (big time outdoor performing arts stage), the Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack, New York Kitchen (culinary center) and Sonnenberg Gardens.
BEST FOR: Big Events – Proximity to Rochester – Revitalized Downtown
Auburn

Pick up Canandaigua and move it from the northwest corner of the Finger Lakes region to the northeast corner and you would have Auburn.
You might choose this historic small city for its proximity to Syracuse, NY. And by historic we mean 19th century American political history, specifically, the history of the fight for the civil rights of both African-Americans and Women (see more below), with a little connection to American Presidential history as well.
BEST FOR: Historical Venues – Proximity to Syracuse – Bass Pro Shop
Seneca Falls/Waterloo

Many local people often link these two villages together, as their borders are only 2 miles apart.
Located just west of Auburn (above), they each add to that city’s historic legacy.
Waterloo is famous for being the founding city of “Memorial Day” observations in America.
Seneca Falls has two famous claims. This is the Seneca Falls you might recall from your American History text books, when you read about the Women’s Rights Movement. And, let us ask you, is the Christmas movie “It’s a Wonderful Life” one of your favorites? Then you should check out this charming village…and its bridge!
For a more modern experience, be sure to check out del Lago Resort & Casino!
BEST FOR: Quaint Downtowns – Historic Legacies – Outlet Shopping – Resort Gaming
The GEOGRAPHICALLY CONVENIENT Communities
Each of these great Finger Lakes communities are worthy of consideration for your stay, and at the very least a visit, while you are in the area. In addition to the references to venues listed above, they each offer many other wonderful and fun experiences for your vacation stay.
